Farrukh Sheikh was born on 25 March 1948 in Amroli, Gujarat, to the family of Mustafa and Farida Sheikh. His father was a big landowner. Farukh Sheikh was the eldest of his five brothers. After getting started at St. Mary’s School in Mumbai, he enrolled in St. Xavier’s College and did further education. Later he also studied law from Siddharth College of Law.

Farooq Sheikh started his career in theater. He has also done many plays together with Sagar Sarhadi. His first major film in Bollywood was ‘Garam Hawa’ which came in 1973. His acting in this film was well liked. Then Farooq Sheikh did a ‘chess player’ with legendary filmmaker Satyajit Ray. After the initial success, Farooq Sheikh started getting films including 1979’s ‘Noori’, 1981’s ‘Chashme Baddoor’.

Farukh Sheikh’s pairing with actress Deepti Naval was a big hit in the seventies. The audience wanted to see them together in films. Together they worked in many films including ‘Chashme Baddoor’, ‘Saath Saath Saath’, ‘Katha’, ‘Rang-Birangi’. Farooq Sheikh is one of the actors who was recognized for a special role in films of big and extraordinary category of filmmakers.
