Abhishek and Aishwarya first met in 2000, when they were shooting for the film ‘Dhai Akshar Prem Ke’. Both of them also worked in the film ‘Kuch Na Kaho’ this year. Till now there was only good friendship between them. However, the two had met once before in 1997 when Ash was working with Abhishek’s good friend Bobby Deol in the film ‘ Aur Pyaar Gaya’. During the ‘Kajrare song’, the closeness grew between the two and during the shooting of the film ‘Umrao Jaan’ released in 2006, both came close to each other.

Abhishek had told in an interview, ‘During the shoot in New York, I thought that standing in the balcony of my hotel room that it would be fantastic if I could marry Aishwarya. Abhishek had told that years after the incident when the duo were in Toronto for the premiere of ‘Guru’, Abhishek took Aishwarya to the same balcony and proposed to Aishwarya for marriage. Ash also admitted that Abhishek had proposed him in a strange way. However, Abhishek took one thing from the set of the film Guru and proposed it to him in New York and not with any precious ring. Aishwarya was very impressed with Abhishek’s efforts and got engaged on 14 January 2007 in Mumbai. After this, both were married.
